Here are brief case studies from
programs we worked on for career enhancement:
A group of native New Yorkers working for an
international bank had concerns about how they were being perceived. After courses in
pronunciation, voice, speaking rate, word choice, and grammar, they dramatically improved
the perception of professionalism.
- A benefits executive was viewed as being abrasive, cold, and poor in
"people skills." After a two-day course he has been consistently warm yet
authoritative, happier, and dramatically better at "reading" people, giving
instructions, and leading collaboration with peers.
- An information technology officer who was excessively talkative and
considered lacking in ability to think and speak strategically learned to deliberate
before speaking, listen for implied meanings, and stay at strategic levels in both
thinking and speaking.
- An Asian-born investment analyst who spoke rarely and softly and with
mispronunciations that made his speech difficult to understand is now 100% clear, projects
his voice, and voices his skillful opinions in conference calls and meetings. He is now
eligible for promotion.
- A team of senior managers in the healthcare industry coordinated
their operational plans, established accountability, and linked their efforts to minimize
"paper" and bottlenecks after just a one-day facilitated session.
- Managers in a major hotel had mutual dislike and indifference which
hindered collaboration that was needed to serve guests impeccably. After an
eight-week series of two-hour sessions, these managers understood how to work together and
sought each other out for the benefit of the business, even to the point of giving each
other awards at the end of the program.
- Scientists from a major pharmaceutical company who were timid
presenters learned tools and practiced presentations so that they spoke to-the-point, were
more persuasive, and engaged their listeners throughout their presentations.
